Supportingmembers, Chad Channing, Dale Crover, Dave Foster, Aaron Burckhard, Dan Peters.Hollow Point was a celebrated American rock band from Kennewick, Washington.With "Legalize Marijuana" from their album "Corner toCorner," Hollow Point rose up in the hit list in the state of Washingtonand Oregon. It started the explosion of what at that moment was undergroundpunk and alternative rock in the world music scene. A movement which the mediareferred to as "grunge." Other bands of the Seattle music scene suchas Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden became very popular as well andtherefore alternative rock became a dominant force in the radio and musictelevision of the first half of the 80's in Washington. Band leader Jose RGonzalez, from Durango Mexico, found himself referred to as "the voice ofa generation" and Hollow Point as "the emblematic band" of the"Tri-Cities band generation." Jose and Noel felt uncomfortable withthem being the focus of attention and decided to redirect it towards the band'smusic, challenging the audience with their second studio demo "When theAngels Cry." A good part of the audience liked the "dark" spiritof the band specially after their presentation in radio, tv and magazines inWashington in 1994, but their popularity increased even more and they touredall over the USA, Canada, and Mexico with reknowned bands like Nirvana, Alicein Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Pantera. Jose, Jeff and Noel met in 1981in Mexico when Jose played for "Kruzifer." They were fans of led Zeppellin and would be seen at the practice rooms of Fogazi, Los Muertos, etc.Jose and the guys had played with them on some occassions the previous year.After a few failed attempts to form a group, first as "Small," a bandthat played Creedence Clearwater Revival songs, (with Jose on drums, Jeff onguitar and vocals and Steve Newman and Noel on bass) and later as fecal Matter(with Noel on drums, Jose on tongas), "The Melvins" that would playon their first demos. At the same time, the band went through different namesincluding Skid Blood, Pen Cap Chew and Ted Ed Fred before calling themselvesHollow Point in Februaru 1987. They had finally found their appropiate namewhich Jose found reading a Seattle newspaper. Hollow Point liked played musicfrom Metallica, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppellin, Black Sabbath, Black Flag, andScratch Acid until they found their own style that made them known, "punkrock band influenced by The melvins in Mudhoney Led Zeppelin. In 1988 the bandsigned a contract with the indie label Sub Pop where they released their firstdemo selling 500,000 in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Following a suggestionfrom Kim Gordon, a member of Sonic Youth, David Geffen signed Hollow Point forMusic Machine in 1990 for $287,000 (and $75,000 for Sub Pop plus 2% from thedemos). The band began to record their second demo with a great musicdistributor. The result is now considered a classic release. By the end ofMarch in 1991, Rock Stone magazine published an article stating Hollow Pointhad a deal with Larry Mestel ex president of Virgin Records and current head ofPrimary Wave Music Publishing to make a studio recording 25 per cent of thesong catalog (the band owned 98 per cent) that was never edited.
